In other news.  About a month ago, Regina, Shannon, and I went out for Mexican at a local place.  The waiter, named Alejandro, was a pretty fun guy.  My friend thought it would be funny to give him MY phone number.  I did not think it was funny, but I also did not think he would call.  Over the next several weeks I received phone calls from a strange number, but I never answered and they never left a message.  Meanwhile, I had forgotten about Alejandro.
Until last week.  Finally, the caller from the strange number left a message.  And it was none other than my sweet Alejandro.  He said something along the lines of “Hello Meg.  This is Alejandro, from Cinco de Mayo.  I call you lots of times but you no answer.  I want to invite you to dinner tonight.  So if you are free call me back.  Ok.  Bye bye”.  Then there is a long pause.  Then comes the best part.  I hear his voice again.  He says the magical three words, very quickly.  “I love you”.  And quickly hangs up.  Best message I’ve ever recieved.  It’s still saved on my voicemail.  And if I can figure out how, I’ll upload it here.
Needless to say though, I will not be calling him back.  And it’s not because of the message.

Letter informing me about passing

Meg,

I wanted to let you know that I’ve heard from all your committee members now, and your DWE has been approved.  Ken Harden has sent me a list of the topics that you should be studying for your DOE.  They are:

1. Principles of biochemistry and pharmacology (REQUIRED)
2.  Principles of cell biology
7.  Antimicrobial pharmacology
12.  Principles of molecular biology

I’ve attached a more detailed list of the broad areas for your reference (subtopics, etc.).  Please give me a 2-week timeframe that you want me to try to schedule your DOE with your committee members.
Congratulations!

KATHY

Dilemma

Do I make more coffee?  No one else in the lab today will drink it.  But I really want some.  I think I will do it.
